Roll up, Roll up, step right up … ok that’s enough of that circus nonsense.
So, yes, this is another comedy review site (like Chortle… only less professional, exhaustive or well written) but these are just my opinions so hardly deserve gospel status.
I have been watching live comedy for around 15 years and I have to say that I 100% admire anyone who has the guts to take to a spot lit stage in front of an unknown crowd armed with just a microphone and their wits. It’s a profession that I know I could not do and for that I doff my tiny bowler hat to them.
That being said this doesn’t mean that anyone who has the guts to take that stage actually has the clown talent to stay on it and that is what I would like to try and call out. Every show nowadays seems to have a five-star review from somewhere, particularly at the Edinburgh Festival, and with the greatest of respect to all involved many of them are just token nonsense and really shouldn’t be able potentially influence a member of the ticket buying public.
So here we are, my big top and my 2cents.
Bring on the clowns!
P.S. And yes I have completely nicked the idea of calling comedians ‘clowns’ from Andrew Maxwell, but in this case imitation really is a form of flattery – no plagiarism was intended.
